Four injured in grenade blast in Srinagar on Republic Day eve

The attack took place amid high alert imposed by security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir on the eve of Republic Day.

Four people, including a policeman, were injured in a grenade blast by suspected terrorists at Hari Singh High Street market in Srinagar on Tuesday afternoon.

Officials said the militants lobbed a grenade at the police vehicle parked at the commercial center in the afternoon.

“The grenade exploded on the side of the road and splashed in all directions. Four people were injured in the explosion. Glasses of several windows were also broken due to the impact of the blast,” the officials said.

A policeman and a woman were among the four injured in the blast. Hospital officials in Srinagar said the condition of all the injured was “stable with minor injuries”.

Additional forces were sent to the spot to nab the attackers. Shopkeepers and pedestrians were also searched as part of the security drill.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police has not yet given any information about the incident.
