Four killed, 26 injured in accident in Mayiladuthurai district

A State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) bus rammed into a two-wheeler near Sirkazhi in Mayiladuthurai district late on Thursday night, killing four people and injuring 26 others.

According to the police, the incident took place on Sirkaji Bypass Road near Karakudi Cut Road. The SETC bus going from Tiruthuraipoondi towards Chennai first rammed into a tanker parked on the roadside and then rammed into a two-wheeler.

In the accident, three persons traveling on a two-wheeler died on the spot, identified as M. Bala Murugan, S. Padmanabhan and P. Arul Raj. SETC bus conductor G., a native of Tiruvannamalai district. Vijayasarathy died at the Government Hospital in Sirkazhi.

Around 26 passengers who were injured in the accident were rescued by the fire brigade and rescue service personnel and admitted to Government Hospital in Sirkazhi for treatment. Five of them, who were seriously injured, were referred to the Raja Muthiah Medical College in Chidambaram.

Sirkaji police have registered a case and further action is being taken.
