New Delhi: Four persons, including an Afghan national, have been arrested with 21 kg of heroin worth Rs 130 crore, police said on Friday. The accused have been identified as Parvez Alam, Naseem Barkaji, Shami Kumar and Rajat Gupta, he said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) KPS Malhotra said that the police arrested an Afghani Barkaji from Karkardooma on a tip-off and recovered 3 kg of good quality heroin from him.
On interrogation, Barkazi revealed that he was part of an international drug syndicate and operated at the behest of his associates based in Afghanistan.
She also revealed that one of her associates, Alam, helps her in the manufacturing and mixing of heroin.
Told the police that Alam had a huge amount of heroin.
Police said that on the basis of information, police raided a place in Bhajanpura area of ​​North East Delhi and recovered 7.4 kg heroin and Rs 1.25 lakh cash from Alam’s possession.
When they dug deeper, the police found that this nexus was spread across the country with deep roots in Punjab.
Police said one of his associates, Kumar, had recently received a consignment of heroin for distribution in Punjab.
He said that raids were conducted in Mahavir Nagar and Dabri to nab Kumar.
During the raid, 11 kg of heroin and precursor (mixing chemicals) and Rs 22 lakh in cash were recovered from him and Kumar was arrested, police said.
In his turn, Kumar stated that he was acting on behalf of a Pankaj and that all the drug proceeds were being managed by Rajat Gupta.
After which Gupta was also arrested.
Police said it has come to light that the accused were members of an international syndicate, whose main source of supply was Afghanistan, in whose land opium was grown.
The accused used to communicate with each other through WhatsApp and other Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) applications.
Police said opium in liquid form was smuggled through air and sea routes and was obtained by Barkaji.
Alam emerged as one of the main parts of the syndicate as he was in charge of processing the liquid opium into powder form.
Police said that this powdered heroin was distributed in Punjab, Delhi and other states through their couriers and distributors spread across the country.
He said that Alam was earlier arrested under the NDPS Act and while in jail, he came in contact with some Afghan nationals and started working with them.
