‘Foxconn plant to remain closed for three more days’

Apple supplier Foxconn’s plant near Chennai will be closed for three more days, a senior government official said, extending the shutdown to a week after workers protested over a food-poisoning incident.

According to a person close to the matter, who was not authorized to speak to the media and declined to be identified, the plant is expected to begin production on December 30 with 1,000 workers.

A separate government source said last week that the plant was closed on December 18 and was expected to remain closed till December 26. The factory gates on the outskirts of Chennai were open on Monday morning and some vehicles were plying. inside and out but the area was mostly deserted.

The plant makes the iPhone 12 models, and media reports say that Apple recently began trial production of its flagship iPhone 13 at the factory.
