Fraud case against Neyyattinkara municipal councillor, wife

The Mariamuttam police have launched a probe against Neyyattinkara municipal councilor Sujin and his wife Geethu for allegedly duping an old woman of land, jewelery and money.

The case was registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by 78-year-old Baby of Thavarvila, Neyyattinkara on December 5 last. The two have been booked under various provisions including sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly abetting delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code.

Sujin, who represents Thavaravila ward in Neyyattinkara municipality, has been accused of cheating the unmarried woman who was living alone in her house. After convincing Baby that they would take care of her, the two along with their baby and Geethu’s parents moved to her house in February 2021.

They allegedly stole 17 pieces of gold, some of which are suspected to have been sold while others have been pawned. They also allegedly managed to collect ₹ 2 lakh on different occasions. After gaining Baby’s trust, Sujin allegedly took her to the Neyyattinkara sub-registrar’s office and transferred the ownership of a plot of land worth 12.5 cents in Geethu’s name.

The complainant claimed that the family left the house after eight months claiming that they were going to the hospital for treatment and never returned.
