Free admission to all ASI-protected monuments from today, all you need to know

As part of India’s 75 years of Independence celebrations under the Amrit Mahotsav celebrations of Azadi, the Union Ministry of Culture has made free entry to all Archaeological Survey of India-protected monuments from today till August 15.

Total 3,793. Huh Archaeological Survey of India-Protected sites across India which will not charge entry fee from any visitor from 5 -15 August.

Announcing the announcement, Union Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy said on Twitter, “As part of the ‘Azadi’s #Amrit Mahotsav’ and 75th Independence Day celebrations, @ASIGoI has opened all its protected monuments/sites for visitors/tourists. Admission is made free. Country, from August 5-15, 2022”

Retweeting the minister’s tweet, the ASI had said, “No fee will be charged from visitors (both domestic and foreign) at all ticketed centrally protected monuments/museums/archaeological sites and relics from August 5, 2022 to August 15, 2022.” ”

The ASI will host 150 flags at the centrally protected monuments, the work of which is expected to start in a few days, news agency PTI quoted an ASI official as saying.

Each of the 37 circles of ASI will organize various programs such as tree plantation, lectures and raising awareness among school children to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence.

In Agra, the ASI is planning a cleanliness drive at around 40 monuments, including the Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri and Itmad-ud-Daula. The ASI is also set to organize exhibitions and install the national flag at various monuments in Agra.

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate 75 years of India’s independence. It began with a 75-week countdown to India’s 75th Independence Day on March 7, 2021 and will end on the next Independence Day.

The central government has taken several initiatives under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav like the recently launched ‘Har Ghar Tricolor’ Campaign to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence.

37 Circles of ASI are spread across the country for the protection and maintenance of monuments and other sites.
