Two-time Grand Slam champion Victoria Azarenka stunned in the third round of the women’s singles event at the French Open on Friday, May 27. Lost a marathon battle to former world No. 1 Jill Tekman of Switzerland. 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (5) were out of the competition.

Jill Teichman set up a fourth-round clash with Sloane Stephens.

Stephens, runner-up of 2018 but unseeded in Paris this year, faced a potentially difficult opponent in French hope Diane Parry, who knocked out defending champion Barbora Krejcikova in the opening round. But Stephens won 6-2, 6-3.

Azarenka looked to be running for a comfortable win when she broke Techman to go 4-2 up in the second with her powerful baseline play and consistent drop shots that guided the game.

But reversing the opening set, it was the turn of the 24-year-old Swiss left-hander, who was forced to shake it up and decide on five of the next six games.

Teachman kept the pressure up and the pair won the tiebreak in the final set, after trading two breaks each.
