French Open champion Inga Swietake has no hope for Wimbledon

Inga Swietek says she has “no hope” for Wimbledon, although she has achieved a winning streak of 35 matches by securing her second French Open title.

The world number one beat teenager Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-3 in the final at Roland Garros on Saturday to win her sixth consecutive tournament this year, which includes four WTA 1,000 titles and a Major.

Pole showed off his hard-court skills to win the Indian Wells-Miami double, also won the title in Doha, and has now dominated clay, winning Stuttgart, Rome and Paris.

But to extend his unbeaten run, he may have to improve on his career grass-court record of four wins and four losses in main draw matches.

“My coach (Tomasz Viktorovski) believes I can win more matches on the grass,” said Swietek, who reached his second week in seven consecutive Grand Slam tournaments.

“I don’t know about it right now. But I’d like to add like a thing or two.

“But honestly, the grass is always tricky. I really like the part I didn’t expect there to be. It’s kind of refreshing.”

Last year, witek showed signs of improvement on the surface by reaching the fourth round of Wimbledon, and his coach Viktorovsky saw his former charge, Agnieszka Radwanska, reach their only Grand Slam final at the All England Club in 2012.

“I’m going to do my best,” Sweetek said.

“Maybe with his experiences with Aga Radwanska, it was his favorite surface, so maybe he’s going to give me some tips that are going to be really helpful, and I’m going to enjoy playing on the grass a little more. I’m staying.”

Passing Serena ‘Special’

She equaled Venus Williams’ 35 consecutive wins in 2000, the longest winning streak by a woman in the 21st century.

Sweetek’s victory also surpassed Serena Williams’ longest unbeaten run of 34 matches, something one says made her victory even more satisfying.

“I think honestly, it might sound very strange, but after that 35th win and doing something more than Serena, it’s something special,” said the 21-year-old.

“Because I’ve always wanted … to have some kind of record. It’s been tough going into tennis after Serena’s career.

“So that really hit me, you know. Obviously winning the Grand Slams too, but it was special enough because I felt like I’ve done something that no one has ever done, and maybe it’s going to be even more.” Going to do. “

Sweetek has now also won her last nine finals, the only WTA Finals loss in her career at a low-key event in Lugano when she was just 17 years old.

“I try to treat it like any other match, which is quite difficult and not possible, because there is always going to be a huge amount of tension,” she said.

“I think I’m acknowledging that a little more equitably, I try to lean on strength…

“I also know that my opponents are going to be tense too. So I try not to panic and try to be less stressed than they are.”

Sweetek now boasts an impressive 21-2 win-loss record at Roland Garros, although he has a long way to go to match his ideal Rafael Nadal’s 111-3.

“He had many more chances to lose, so I think his position is much better,” she said of the 13-time champion, who faces Casper Roode in the men’s final on Sunday.
