new CM of Maharashtra
Just a day after Uddhav Thackeray’s resignation, rebel Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde took over as the chief minister in Maharashtra. Meanwhile, Devendra Fadnavis became the Deputy Chief Minister. Eknath Shinde is the 20th Chief Minister of the state.
Supreme Court in Nupur Sharma case
Several FIRs have been registered in different states following controversial remarks against Prophet Mohammad on suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma. In this regard, he filed a petition in the apex court, but it was rejected. The Supreme Court said that his “loose tongue” has “set the whole country on fire”, adding that he is “singlely responsible for what is happening in the country”. The court has asked Nupur to find an alternative remedy.
plastic ban
The ban on single use plastic products has been implemented from this Friday, July 1. The government has made it very clear that violating the ban will come with severe punishment, which may include fine or jail term, or both. The details are under section 15 of the Environment Protection Act (EPA) as well as the bye-laws of the respective municipal corporations.
