Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2022 will start from 5th February and will run till 13th February. With the exam just hours away, here are some tips that can help students de-stress and score to the best of their ability.

More than 9 lakh students are appearing for the exam. IIT Kharagpur claims that the exam will be conducted amid COVID-19 precautions. Candidates without mask and sanitizer will not be allowed to sit inside the examination hall.

Candidates have to log in to the system 30 minutes before the commencement of the exam. A physical calculator (even on the electronic watch) or a mobile phone (even in switch-off mode) is prohibited from the examination centre. If found with any of these, their candidature will be cancelled. Note that a virtual scientific calculator will be provided to all the candidates

For those looking to score higher, last year’s topper, 67-year-old Sankaranarayanan Sankarapandian, said, “Since GATE has negative marking and the qualifying marks required per subject is around one-fourth. In one question, they assess many concepts, may be familiar with a concept or two but not familiar with how to solve this problem, it is better to accept and leave that question. Even if a student masters a part of the syllabus and skips a part, they will be able to clear the exam.”

GATE 2022 is a three-hour computer based test (CBT). The exam is conducted for a total of 100 marks. Now with the addition of two new subject papers: NM (Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering) and GE (Geomatics Engineering), the total number of subject papers has gone up to 29. This year the Computer Science and Information Technology and Biomedical Engineering exam will be conducted in the first shift on February 5, while the Electrical Engineering and Mathematics exam will be conducted in the second shift later. GATE scores are valid for three years after the result is declared.
