New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Launched on Wednesday the ambitious Rs 100 lakh crore Gati Shakti Master Plan to provide multi-modal connectivity to over 1,200 industrial clusters, including two defense corridors, across the country.
After launching the scheme, the Prime Minister said, “We are laying the foundation for the next 25 years. This National Master Plan will give ‘gatshakti’ to the development plans of the 21st century and help in timely completion of these plans.”

What is speed power?
The Prime Minister had announced ‘PM Gati Shakti – National Master Plan’ in his Independence Day speech on August 15 this year.
The scheme will break down inter-ministerial silos and integrate planning and designing of projects with a common and holistic vision, enhancing India’s global competitiveness through next generation infrastructure and seamless multi-modal connectivity, both for goods and people. This will ensure smooth movement of and enhance ease of use. Ease of living as well as doing business, said a top government official.
Under Gati Shakti, a digital platform has been created which will bring together 16 Ministries including Rail and Roadways for integrated planning and coordinated implementation of infrastructure connectivity projects.
The platform will provide high resolution satellite images, infrastructure, utilities, administrative boundaries, land and logistics.
While the project will be headed by the Department of Logistics in the Ministry of Commerce, there will be an Empowered Group of Secretaries headed by the Cabinet Secretary to oversee the implementation of this flagship initiative.
Objective of National Plan
“PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan for Multi-Modal Infrastructure Connectivity to Economic Zones” with the tag line ‘Gati Se Shakti’ will include projects under the existing flagship schemes of various ministries such as Bharatmala, Sagarmala, UDAN, expansion of railway network, inland waterways and Bharat Net.
Officials said that seamless multi-modal connectivity would ensure seamless movement of goods and people and would enhance the ease of doing business as well as ease of living.
Gati Shakti will also help in meeting the ambitious targets set by the government for the period 2024-25, which include expanding the length of the national highway network to 2 lakh route km, construction of over 200 airports, heliports and water aerodromes and Doubling is included. Gas pipeline network up to 35,000 km.

Talking about Gati Shakti, PM Modi said that it provides a holistic vision which has taken an unprecedented approach to deliver unprecedented work.
“We aim to create and deliver an integrated approach that has a plug and play approach when it comes to world-class infrastructure,” he added.
He said that if India continues to fulfill its dream of building world-class infrastructure, it will soon have the potential to become the trading capital of the world.
The prime minister also gave a new mantra for the 21st century: “desire for progress, work for progress, money for progress, plan for progress and prioritize for progress.”
“Our government has not only developed a work-culture of completing the projects within the stipulated time frame, but efforts are also being made to complete the projects before time,” he said.
