Gaurav Gupta’s six brides

It seems to be the season of enchanted jungles, what with Rahul Mishra, and now Gaurav Gupta is looking to the magical trees for inspiration. In Gupta’s case, it also introduced something new for her label – full-blown bridal wear. Six distinctive lehengas display three-dimensional motifs on jewelry-adorned clothing and the most imaginary creatures. Ornate zardozi, pearls, silk and velvet, glass beads… Art Nouveau meets Renaissance, you say?

Shot in Jaisalmer, the capsule collection could be a sign to come from this Central St. Martins alumnus.

“Each lehenga is a multi-layered embroidered painting that expresses different forms of imagination. Inventive and layered embroideries bring life to peacocks that look as if they are in motion. We are passionate about blending culture and art forms. Designs that are almost rhythmic so that the eye does not stop, the science behind this art is hidden. It is an extreme textile process in which we re-purpose the same artwork multiple times that takes endless exploration and attention to detail,” explains Gupta.

The palette celebrates reds, teals, blush pinks and fuchsias and will find many takers, like their new-concept lehengas and sari-gowns with architectural cuts in the past.
