The controversy started last Sunday when legislators loyal to him submitted resignation letters over a possible move to appoint Sachin Pilot as the next chief minister and held a parallel meeting called by the Congress legislature party.

“I can be in any position. I am from Rajasthan. I belong to Marwar, Jodhpur, Mahamandir. How can I stay away from where I was born? Wherever I am, I take my last breath I will continue to serve Rajasthan till now. What I say has some meaning,” he told reporters in Bikaner. As reporters asked him whether he would present the fifth budget of the government, Gehlot said, “We will complete five years and I have said that the next budget will be presented for students and youth.” The Chief Minister also said that the BJP wants to topple his government, but his rule is getting stronger.

“They keep trying to ensure that our government doesn’t complete five years. Earlier too, BJP tried horse-trading but our MLAs were united and they didn’t budge. Urging people to continue supporting the Congress, Gehlot said people sometimes get carried away by the election wave and keep on changing the government.

Criticizing the BJP for maligning Rahul Gandhi’s image on social media, he said the saffron party leaders and their allies are now shaken by the Congress leader’s visit to India. Gehlot said, “The people of the country are very happy with the visit of Rahul Gandhi. He does not want dictatorship and one party rule. He wants the opposition to be strong.”

On the election of the National President of Congress, Gehlot said that it is giving a message to the people of the country. “Nobody knows when Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah and Nadda became BJP presidents. Elections in Congress are being held democratically. This election has given a message to the people as to what position Congress is still in. Gehlot said, giving a strong opposition.
