Industries and IT Minister KTRama Rao on Tuesday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of five projects, including a bio-pharma hub in Hyderabad’s Genome Valley, which together are expected to attract 1,100 crore investment and create around 3,000 jobs.

B-Hub will help small and medium-sized biopharma companies conduct proof-of-concept studies in a 200 liter single use scale-up facility and research within 1.5 lakh sq ft area while attracting talent and fostering innovation. will complete the activities. It will have a state-of-the-art bioprocess scale-up facility, research and development laboratory space, collaboration modules and Grade ‘A’ training rooms.

Speaking at the event, he said that amid its growing prominence, Genome Valley is running out of space. India’s first systematically developed R&D cluster, it is now home to over 200 companies, including some of the largest vaccine developers.

Genome Valley has more plug and play multi-tenanted lab space than all other clusters in the country. “Today we are widening this gap,” the minister said in a tweet. He said Hyderabad has the largest multi-tenant laboratory in the country and one of the highest in the region – housing over 3 million square feet at international standards. One of the facilities inaugurated by Mr. Rao was the new process development facility of Yapan Bio, a startup in which Piramal Pharma has a strategic minority stake. “With this expansion, Yapan enhances its ability to support the end-to-end development and manufacture of RNA, DNA and gene therapy products starting with plasmids,” a Piramal release said.

Talking to the media, senior leadership of Life Sciences Infrastructure and cluster developer Rx Propellant said that the company is developing 9 lakh square feet of additional lab space in Genome Valley.

Managing Director Vishal Goel said the company has already developed 5 lakh square feet of lab space in Genome Valley with an investment of Rs 500 crore. Phase II, which was launched by the minister, will have an estimated investment of ₹900 crore and includes seven independent projects – Innopolis, Xenopolis, Touchstone, ARX, Nextopolis, GV1 and B-Hub.

The company said it will invest an additional ₹2,000 crore over the next five years in Hyderabad and other major life science centers in India to build a cumulative portfolio of over 100 lakh square feet.

Another facility inaugurated by Mr. Rao was the GV Research Platform’s suite of preclinical research services. GVRP is a preclinical CRO and has established a 28,000 sq ft commercial breeding and testing facility. It is being set up with an investment of 40 crores and provides employment to around 100 people in veterinary science, toxicology, pharmacology and analytical research. Over the next three years, the firm plans to invest an additional $10 million in Genome Valley to begin complementary research areas, with the workforce growing to 200.
