Veteran Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge is up against Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor in the presidential election. The elections will be held on October 17, the results of which will be declared on October 19. About 9,000 Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) representatives from across the country will cast their votes in this election. Both the candidates released their election manifesto stating their priorities.

Supreme Court’s split decision on Hijab controversy

A two-judge bench of the Supreme Court has given a split verdict on the Karnataka government’s ban on wearing hijab in the state’s pre-university campuses. While Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia ruled against prohibition on the ground that the education of girls was more important than the hijab, Justice Hemant Gupta upheld the prohibition and determined that the hijab was not a necessary religious practice. The divided verdict means that the matter will now be placed before the Chief Justice India For further instructions and is likely to move to a larger bench.

Hyderabad win World Green City Award 2022

At the International Association of Horticulture Producers (AIPH) 2022 event held in Jeju, South Korea on 14 October, Hyderabad won the World Green City Award 2022. Gyanvapi case: Carbon dating of ‘Shivling’ rejected

The Varanasi district court on October 14 dismissed a petition filed by the Hindu side regarding carbon dating of the disputed structure within the Gyanvapi mosque complex. While the Muslim side claims it to be a fountain, the Hindu side considers it to be an ancient Shivling.

According to the Union Health Ministry data, India recorded 2,430 new COVID-19 cases on October 15, taking the total number of persons infected with the virus to 4,46,26,427. The country reported 17 deaths, bringing the total number of fatalities to 5,28,874. Currently, the COVID-19 recovery rate in India has risen to 98.76 per cent.
