Goa CM Pramod Sawant richer 3 times since 2017, Uttarakhand counterpart’s wealth increased 7 times: ADR

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s wealth has increased three-fold since 2017, while his Uttarakhand counterpart Pushkar Singh Dhami’s wealth has risen nearly seven-fold in the same period, show two reports by the Association for Democratic Reforms.

Sawant, who has been working as the CM of Goa since 2019, has become rich by Rs 6.58 crore. Meanwhile, Dhami has been CM for only seven months and has become rich by over Rs 2.85 crore, reports show.

ADR and Uttarakhand Election Watch have analyzed the self-affidavits of 51 MLAs who are seeking re-election in the upcoming Uttarakhand Assembly elections to be held on February 14. According to a report, there has been an increase in the assets of all the 51 MLAs, ranging from at least 3 per cent to 740 per cent.

In other reports, ADR and Goa Election Watch have analyzed the self-appointed affidavits of 37 MLAs who are re-contesting in the upcoming Goa Assembly election, which is also scheduled for February 14. Among them, the assets of 35 MLAs have increased from 2 per cent to more than 2 per cent. 236 percent.

In Goa, average property growth is 64%

“The average assets of these 37 MLAs, who were re-contested by different parties, including independents, in 2017 were Rs 10.24 crore. Their average assets in 2022 are Rs 16.77 crore,” the report of Goa MLAs said. Moreover, the average asset growth of these 37 MLAs who contested for re-election between 2017 and 2022 is 64 per cent (Rs 6.53 crore).

The ruling BJP in Goa has again fielded 22 sitting MLAs. The average increase in his wealth is Rs 5.79 crore.

Michael Vincent Lobo, who was the BJP MLA from Calangute constituency till last month, announced a maximum increase of Rs 38.31 crore in his assets – from Rs 54.59 crore in 2017 to Rs 92.91 crore in 2022. Lobo, who was also its member. The Goa cabinet joined the Congress in January.

The assets of BJP’s Atanasio Monserrate from Panaji constituency have increased by Rs 26.87 crore – from Rs 21.61 crore in 2017 to Rs 48.48 crore in 2022.

Goa Forward Party (GFP) lone MLA Vijay Sardesai’s assets have risen by Rs 22.40 crore in the last five years – from Rs 14.75 crore in 2017 to Rs 37.16 crore in 2022. He is seeking re-election from Fatorda. The average increase in assets of two Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) MLAs is Rs 7.16 crore, the report said.

49% average property growth in Uttarakhand

In Uttarakhand, the average assets of 51 MLAs from different parties, including independents, was Rs 4.72 crore in 2017. In 2022, his average assets are Rs 7.05 crore, said the report on Uttarakhand.

“The average asset growth of these 51 re-contesting MLAs is Rs 2.33 crore or 49 per cent,” the report said.

Four of the top five MLAs showing the highest increase in assets in terms of rupees are from the BJP. Rekha Arya from Someshwar constituency has declared a maximum increase of Rs 12.42 crore in her assets – from Rs 12.78 crore in 2017 to Rs 25.20 crore in 2022.

The assets of Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin of Congress from Mangalore constituency have increased from Rs.10.80 crores – Rs.21.30 crores in 2017 to Rs.32.10 crores in 2022. Besides this, the assets of BJP’s Pradeep Batra from Roorkee constituency have increased by Rs 8.25. crore and Satpal Maharaj has increased by Rs 7.08 crore from the saffron party.
