Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai on Saturday tendered his resignation to clear the way for the formation of the new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Goa.
The governor appointed Sawant as the caretaker chief minister until the next government was formed.
Sawant along with BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanawade submitted his resignation after meeting the Governor at Raj Bhavan, Dona Paula.
“The CM has resigned and until alternative arrangements are made, this government will continue to be a caretaker government. During the eight months as Governor of Goa, Sawant’s service and support to the state was remarkable,” the governor said.
After resigning, Sawant said that the governor has appointed him as caretaker chief minister.
