Goa will sign MoU with Tata Memorial Hospital, Cancer Institute Centre: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane | Goa News – Times of India

Panaji: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane Said on Wednesday that the state will sign a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tata Memorial HospitalMumbai and the Central Government, to seek their guidance in setting up the proposed Cancer Institute of Goa,
Tata Memorial Hospital is one of the largest cancer care facilities in the world, and is supported by the Central Government’s Department of Atomic Energy.
Rane’s announcement came after a meeting with Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan and State Health Secretary YVVJ Rajasekhar to discuss various issues related to health services in Goa.
Rane said Bhushan promised cooperation in upgrading the tertiary cancer center to a state cancer institute. “They have advised us to send a proposal along with the referral,” Rane said.
The foundation stone of the cancer center was laid on August 1. This project was started only a few years back, and the state is being provided financial assistance by the central government.
Rane said Bhushan appreciated the Goa government’s policy of approving HPV vaccination for girls in the age group of 9-14 for the prevention of cervical cancer.
Goa Medical College (GMC) has a unit for cancer patients and also a day center for chemotherapy, headed by Dr. Anupama Borkari,
Earlier, most cancer patients in need of treatment were referred to some private hospitals or centers outside Goa.
Rane said that in Wednesday’s meeting, they also discussed the digitization of health records. “This will ensure that the records of all patients, but mainly those from remote primary health centers, are properly documented,” Rane said.
He said that the digital documentation will ensure that the records are maintained at one place, which will help in the preventive care as well as treatment of the patients.
Rane said that Union Health Ministry As per the advice of NITI Aayog, South Goa District Hospital with a separate medical college will soon send a team of officers to understand the specific needs of Goa including upgradation of the hospital.
“The ministry will also depute AIIMS officials to upgrade the STEMI program in Goa,” Rane said.
