Gold, silver jewelery and diamonds worth Rs 47 lakh stolen in Chennai. Chennai News – Times of India

CHENNAI: Unidentified men broke into the house of a transport firm owner in Anna Nagar and fled with 70 sovereigns of gold worth Rs 28 lakh and diamond jewelery and silver utensils worth Rs 19 lakh on Saturday.
The victim, D Elangovan, 54, a resident of Vallalar Kudiyiruppu in Anna Nagar West, runs a transport firm and the theft occurred when he was sleeping in the house with his wife.
According to police, Elangovan, who was sleeping in a room on the first floor of the building, called for help when he found that his room was locked from outside. A milk vendor heard a cry and brought help. When he checked the room on the ground floor, he found valuables worth several lakh rupees stolen. The thieves also broke into the second room on the first floor.
On information, Tirumangalam police reached the spot and inquired. Fingerprint experts were also pressed into service.
CCTV camera footage has been collected to identify the thieves and a case has been registered. Further investigation is on.
