Gold up ₹733, silver up ₹1,012; check rates here

(PTI) Gold prices soar in the national capital since 733 56,380 per 10 grams on Monday amid a rise in the prices of the precious metal in the overseas market, according to HDFC Securities.

“Comex gold prices traded higher in early Asian hours on Monday supported by a weak US dollar. The bullish trend in gold prices is likely to continue for the day,” said an analyst at HDFC Securities.

In the overseas market, gold was trading in the green at $1,875 an ounce and silver was trading higher at $23.92 an ounce.

“Meanwhile in other positive news for gold, China reported an increase in its gold reserves for the second month in a row, with holdings rising again after its first purchases in more than three years,” the analyst said.

On Monday, the rupee strengthened by 29 paise to close at 82.37 (provisional) against the US dollar.

“The US dollar index is trading down 0.30 per cent and consolidating near recent lows. The dollar index retreated on Friday after weak US macro data, the US dollar in December for the first time in more than 2.5 years amid weak demand Service industry activity contracted, the analyst said.
