‘Good Times’ actor Johnny Brown dies at 84

Actor Johnny Brown, best known for playing housing project superintendent Nathan Bookman in the hit show “Good Times”, has died at the age of 84. Johnny’s daughter Sharon Katherine Brown told TMZ that he was at her doctor’s office in L.A. on Wednesday. His pacemaker checked out, and he went into cardiac arrest and collapsed shortly after he left. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died. She says the appointment was routine, so her sudden death was a shock. Sharon said, “Our family is devastated. Devastated. Devastated. Beyond heartbroken. Barely able to breathe.”

“We respectfully demand privacy at this time because we need a minute to process the unimaginable. To express the depth of the deepest sadness. This is my mother’s husband of sixty years, father of me and JJ , Eliza and Levi’s pop pop, big brother George and Brother in Law to Pat and extended family to Chris, Hihat, Damien and Darrell. It’s awful. It will never happen. It’s a blowout. He’s literally snatched from our lives. Was taken. It’s not real for us yet. So there’s more to be said but not now. Dad was the best. We love him so much.”

The versatile actor and singer landed his breakout role as Nathan Bookman in ‘Good Times’ in the middle of Season 2 in 1975.

She also starred in three seasons of “Laugh In,” “Julia,” “Maude,” “The Jefferson,” “Archie Bunker Place,” “Family Matters,” “Sister, Sister,” “Moonlighting” and “Martin.” . ‘ She also starred in ‘Carry Me Back to Morningside Heights’ directed by late legendary artist Sidney Poitier. Johnny is survived by his wife June Brown, their daughter Sharon and son John Jr.
