Google Cloud: Google Cloud announces security feature to trace crypto mining – Times of India

google cloud has announced a new security feature Which will help in detecting cryptocurrency mining in Virtual Machines (VMs). crypto mining It is a common practice to exploit computing resources malicious Cyber activity and such attacks account for 86% of cyber threats on public cloud platforms, according to Google.
The new feature is called virtual machine threat detection (VMTD) and is offered as a public preview to customers of Google Cloud’s Security Command Center Premium offering, Google said in a blog post. vmtd “Agentless Memory Scanning” is designed to detect cyber threats such as crypto-mining malware on virtual machines running inside the Google Cloud.
The company said that no additional software agent would be required to trace the VMTD crypto Mining activities in virtual machines. With traditional endpoint protection, software agents are deployed inside guest virtual machines to detect threats. But Google said that with its Compute Engine, it wants to be able to detect cyber threats like crypto-mining malware without employing any software agents. The company also mentioned the motivation behind agentless memory scanning. Without a software agent, this would “lower performance impact, reduce the operational burden for agent deployment and management, and expose less attack surface to potential adversaries,” Google Cloud said in its blog post.
Google Claude said it can incorporate “hypervisors — software that runs and orchestrates beneath our customers’ virtual machines — for nearly universal and hard-to-tamper-threat detection.”
Google Cloud’s virtual machine threat detection will be expanded to include other capabilities in the coming months.
