Google Launches Startup Accelerator Program for Women Founders in India: All Details

Google has launched its new Startup Accelerator program which aims to help around 20 startups led by women founders in India. Google says the program will help startup founders address challenges unique to their experience, which primarily include fundraising and hiring, among others.

Google’s first batch of Startup Accelerator India The Women Founders Program is going to nominate 20 women-founded/co-founded startups in the country. This includes startups that are in the early product stage, and supports them through a three-month program.

The program will focus on access to networks, access to capital, recruitment challenges, mentorship and many other areas that prove challenging for women founders due to various social causes and under-representation.

In addition to these, the curriculum will include workshops and support in AI/ML, Cloud, UX, Android, Web, product strategy and development as well as providing access to a global community of female founders. Google mentioned Applications for that program are open till July 10.

So why has Google set up this new program? India is the third largest startup capital in the world, behind only the US and China. Spanning across verticals like e-commerce, health tech, fintech and many more, it boasts of over 100 unicorns with 22 joining the list in 2022.

However, only 15 percent of these Indian unicorns have one or more female founders.

“The new program is part of a larger effort by Google to improve the representation of women in various segments of India’s digitally trained workforce, be it entrepreneurship, professionals looking to upskill or young graduates looking to pursue their careers. We would like to start with Param with the aim of making technology universally relevant and helpful,” the search giant highlighted in a blogpost.
