Google’s affordable Pixel phone may launch late in 2022

According to new reports, Google may delay the launch of the new Pixel 6A series this year. The company usually slots Pixel A phones in for the Google I/O event, but it looks like Google will have to push those plans in 2022 for various reasons.

The new expected launch deadline has been set for post-October, so it is possible that the Pixel 6A could be unveiled alongside the new Pixel 7 series smartphones this year.

So, why is Google being forced to delay the launch of the Pixel 6A? As you may be aware, Google has introduced its own Tensor chipset, which made its debut in 2021 with the Pixel 6 series.

And the Pixel 6A is expected to feature similar hardware. But production issues due to lack of chipset supply could force Google to change its plans. The Pixel 6A is the affordable Pixel smartphone lineup for the brand, which will be the successor to the Pixel 5A series that came out in 2021.

But in India, Google decided not to bring the Pixel 5A last year, which makes the Pixel 4A the last phone to be launched in the country.

With the chipset supply issue causing more headaches, we are expecting Google to not feel the need to exclude India from its focused market with the Pixel 6A this year.

Google Pixel 6A Specifications (Expected)

We have already seen the press renders of the Pixel 6A and the design language is similar to the regular Pixel 6 series, which is nice to see. The Pixel 6A is likely to sport a 6.2-inch OLED display with support for 90Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution. The phone should get an on-screen fingerprint sensor, which is powered by a Tensor chipset and we expect to see 6GB and 8GB RAM models.

Where the Pixel really is is the camera department, and in that respect, the Pixel 6a is tipped to once again feature dual rear cameras, but with a 50-megapixel primary and 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor.
