This year, Govardhan Puja will be celebrated on 26 October. Pratipada Tithi is predicted to be effective on this auspicious day, which is the same day when Bhai Dooj will be celebrated.

On this day Pratipada date is predicted to start from 4:18 pm on 25 October to 2:42 pm on 26 October. The Shubh Muhurta or Shubh Muhurta of Govardhan Puja will be between 6:29 am to 8:43 am on October. 26.

Govardhan Puja 2022: Worship Method

  1. On this day devotees make hills with cow dung.
  2. Then they decorate the hill with flowers and kumkum, which is a symbol of Govardhan Parvat.
  3. People pray to Govardhan Parvat for the safety and well being of their families.
  4. Additionally, the Govardhan Puja ritual involves people bathing their cows.
  5. Apart from this, they worship him with garlands and saffron.
  6. In the parikrama (round), the devotees go around the hills of cow dung.
  7. Annakoot Puja is an essential part of Govardhan Puja. During the festival, Chappan Bhog is offered to Lord Krishna.
  8. It is then distributed among family and friends.

Govardhan Puja commemorates the day when Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan hill to save the people of Mathura from the wrath of Lord Indra. According to legend, Krishna lifted the Govardhan mountain with his finger and saved the Gokul residents from heavy rains and floods.
