Government completes ₹96,000 crore transactions in 2021-22 under National Monetization Pipeline

According to a top government official, the government has completed ₹96,000 crore transactions under the National Monetization Pipeline (NMP) in 2021-22, surpassing the year’s target of ₹88,000 crore.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced the NMP in August last year, under which the government is expected to raise around Rs 6 lakh crore by leasing out public assets in sectors such as airports, railways, roads and shipping to the private sector.

In 2021-22, while roads and highways monetised assets worth ₹23,000 crore, the power sector closed the financial year with total monetization of ₹9,500 crore, monetization value of ₹40,000 crore from coal mining and Mining of minerals earned ₹18,700 crore. On Tuesday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held a review meeting on the progress of the NMP, which was attended by NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant, finance secretary and secretaries from various ministries such as roads, railways, petroleum and power.

“The sectors/ministries in which the targeted monetization potential for FY2022 could not be met, such as the Railways, were asked to identify ‘quick win’ assets and initiate transactions so that they can be used for subsequent years,” the official said. Stay on track during.”

“We are confident of crossing the current year’s target as well as proposals worth Rs 1.63 lakh crore and investment in pipeline and various stages of processing,” the official said.
