Government makes three-point seat belt mandatory for all front passengers in car – Times of India

New Delhi: The government has made it mandatory for automakers to provide three-point seat belts for all front passengers in a car. The norm will also apply for the middle seat in the back row of the car, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said in a press conference on Thursday.
“I have signed a file yesterday making it mandatory for automakers to provide three-point seat belts for all front passengers in the car,” the road transport and highways minister said.
Currently, most cars produced in the country have three-point seat belts only in the front seats and two in the rear. However, in these cars the center or middle rear seat is only equipped with two-point or lap seat belts, as provided in aircraft seats.
