Government to set up export promotion wings in states, Indian missions: Commerce Secretary – Times of India

New Delhi: commerce secretary BVR Subrahmanyam on Saturday said that the central government will soon form a dedicated body to promote export From India who will have a footprint in the states and Indian missions.
Addressing the FICCI Annual Convention and the 94th AGM, Subrahmanyam said the government is working on ‘future ready commerce’. “It will work on many things. First and foremost, there will be a separate export Promotion Wing with a footprint in all Indian missions abroad and in every state of India,” he said.
According to Subrahmanyam, bilateral and multilateral engagement departments will be formed under the trade negotiation wing.
“The flavor of today is bilateral trade, and the government is negotiating free trade agreements with several countries like UAE, Australia, USA, EU, which will be completed by next year. These include many other aspects like public procurement. intellectual property, social development etc,” he said.
He said that market intelligence would also be set up in the states which would be a big boon for the industry to boost its exports. In addition, the ministry is working on a Brand India strategy with a broader objective of promoting business across the globe.
VR Sharma, Co-Chairman, FICCI Steel Committee and Managing Director, Jindal Steel & Power Ltd, shared various issues related to exports on behalf of the industry. These include reduction in operating costs (e.g. for utilities, transportation, processing costs), export credit and guarantees in India that remain costly.
