Government working towards increasing NH network to 2 lakh km by 2025: Nitin Gadkari – Times of India

New Delhi: The government is working towards expanding the National Highway Network up to 2 lakh km by 2025, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari Said on Friday.
while addressing an event organized by Indian Road Congress (IRC), Gadkari also proposed setting up of an ‘Innovation Bank’ for new ideas, research findings and technologies to focus on quality in infrastructure development.
“Our government is working dedicatedly to increase the national highway network to 2 lakh km by 2025,” he said.
The Minister pointed out that in the last eight years, the length of National Highway More than 50 percent – from 91,000 km in 2014 to about 1.47 lakh km now.
Observing that the Government is very committed for the development of the North East region, he said that NHIDCL (National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation) is playing a vital role in the development of infrastructure in the region.
“So far, 2,344 km of highways have been constructed in the northeastern region at a cost of Rs 45,000 crore,” Gadkari said.
The Minister said that infrastructure development has an important role in fulfilling the vision of the Prime Minister. Narendra Modi To make India a 5 trillion dollar economy.
Gadkari said innovation should be the focus area for all engineers and IRC should develop a world-class state-of-the-art laboratory with the help of IITs and global institutions.
He said that there should be minimum carbon footprint and exploitation of limited natural resources during construction and operation phase.
According to Gadkari, a sustainable alternative to steel and cement should be explored.
