‘Governments should allocate adequate funds to civic bodies’

CPI(M) Politburo member G. Ramakrishnan said the central and state governments should allocate more funds to rural bodies to strengthen infrastructure at the grassroots.

Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, Mr Ramakrishnan, who had come to campaign for the rural local body elections in two phases on October 6 and 9, said that the state and central government have to work for the benefit of the rural people. Adequate funds should be allocated. population.

Since the Act enacted in 1992 ensured reservation in the posts of local bodies for women and Dalits, they should occupy these posts to give efficient and transparent administration without the influence of others.

Mr Ramakrishnan said the BJP, which came to power through the back door in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and even Puducherry, could never succeed with similar efforts in Tamil Nadu.

The leader lauded the DMK’s rule and said that the state government was implementing several ‘public-welfare’ schemes. “The most important welfare scheme was the decision to provide 7.50% reservation in engineering admissions to government school students and to bear their tuition fees,” said Mr. Ramakrishnan.
