Govt planning to have helipads, drone landing facilities along national highways: Gadkari

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the government is planning to set up helipads and drone landing facilities on national highways. These facilities will be set up at some of the 600 locations where it is developing facilities along highways.

According to central minister, These facilities will help in handling medical emergencies like road accidents and organ transplant.

According to an official release, the Minister for Road Transport and Highways said that NHAI Developing world class ‘Wayside Facilities’ (WSAs) at over 600 locations with National Highway,

Apart from basic amenities like good toilets, parking and restaurants; He said these roadside facilities would include dormitories for truck drivers, electric vehicle charging, trauma centers and others.

Besides this, there will also be retail outlets to promote handicrafts and locally made products, the minister said, adding that some WSAs will also have helipads and drone landing facilities to deal with medical emergencies like road accidents and organ transplants.

Gadkari Further added, “PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP) is a huge initiative and it will help us to reduce the logistics cost”.

He said the logistics cost in India is as high as 13-14 per cent of GDP as compared to 8-9 per cent in other developed economies like the US.

“High logistics cost reduces the competitiveness of ‘Made in India’ products in global markets. Reducing logistics cost to 9 per cent of GDP is at the top of the government’s agenda,” the minister stressed.

Gadkari said a strong, stable, decisive and transparent government is the key to achieving the country’s target of becoming a $5 trillion economy by 2025.
