Economic Affairs Secretary Ajay Seth has said that the issuance of sovereign green bonds is part of the overall lending program of the government.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced in her budget speech that the government proposes to issue Sovereign Green Bonds to mobilize resources for green infrastructure. “This proceeds will be channeled into public sector projects that help reduce the carbon intensity of the economy,” she said. Mr Seth said this was part of the total borrowings for the next financial year.
