GST Council meeting: Goods and Services Tax (GST) subsidiary apex body No The meeting of the Council (GST Council) started on Saturday. Union Finance Minister Nirmal Nigam (Nirmala Sitharaman) is chairing the 49th meeting of the Privy Council. State finance ministers are also participating in the states and central states. In this, there is a possibility of discussion on making a system to stop tax evasion in Pan Masala and Gutkha business and establishment of appellate judicial authorities.

Sources said that the issues which could not be discussed in the last meeting of the Council on December 17, 2022, are also included in the top agenda of Saturday’s meeting. According to sources, the report of the Group of Priests (GoM) headed by Odisha Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari to check piracy in the pan masala and gutkha industry may also be discussed in the meeting.
A Mantra Group on Facts and Service Tax Appellate Tribunals (GSTAT) was constituted in July last year, headed by Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala. This GoM has advised the court that the tribunal should be headed by a retired judge of the Supreme Court, along with two audience members from the Center and the state, and a member from the technical department.
