The Aam Aadmi Party’s Gujarat chief was released this afternoon nearly three hours after he was detained from the National Commission for Women’s Delhi office over a controversial video in which he was purportedly using derogatory language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. was heard.

Gopal had appeared in the commission’s office earlier in the day in response to the summons in the Italia case. Minutes after NCW chief Rekha Sharma claimed to have threatened to put him in jail, he was taken away in a police vehicle.

“Instead of listening to me, the NCW president called the police and sent me to the police station. This shows that the entire BJP is conspiring against the Patel community. They shot many of us. They were from the Patidars. are jealous. They want to harass me. At any cost. The police accepted that they had orders from above to take me into custody,” he told NDTV after his release.

Italia said, “When I went to his office, he abused me. I left with folded hands.”

Mr Italia’s allegations came after Ms Sharma accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers of trying to crowd her office. This triggered another flashpoint between the AAP and the BJP, with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal attacking the BJP for being after Mr Italia.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also hit out at the BJP, saying Mr Italia was detained because he belongs to a party that knows how to build schools. “They don’t know how to educate people and improve schools,” the senior AAP leader said.

The case reportedly pertains to a controversial video from 2018 in which Mr Italia was allegedly heard using derogatory words, including “low man (lower person)”, to describe PM Modi. The commission had summoned him to its office on the matter today, saying that his language was “gender-based” and “incorrect”.
