Gujarat: AAP MLA raises NEP, questions on quality of education in government schools, BJP retaliates

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi on Sunday praised the quality of education in government schools as well as national Education Policy (NEP) 2020 during an event held here, while BJP leaders from Gujarat, who participated in the event, accused the Arvind Kejriwal-led government of spending crores on advertisements.

Atishi said the NEP document is like a “wish list” and is of no value in the absence of an implementation plan, while BJP leader Sunil Deodhar alleged that the AAP government in Delhi “ows Rs 600 crore to taxpayers” on advertisements every year. spends. Year. Gujarat Education Minister Jitu Vaghani claimed that about four lakh students from private schools have taken admission in government schools due to improvement in the quality of education and infrastructure.

These leaders were invited to share their views on the topic of NEP at the ‘Youth Parliament of India-2021’ program organized at Karnavati University, a private university located in Uvarsad village in Gandhinagar district. “When I was reading the New Education Policy, I felt that although we are good at making policies, the big question is whether we are able to implement it. This new policy is like a wish list, just like we want to India Cricket wins the World Cup or people like us want to stay fit,” Atishi said.

The AAP MLA from Delhi said that if we do not have any planning or implementation mechanism, then there is no point in wishing for such things. “When the AAP government was formed for the first time seven years ago, I was appointed as an educational advisor. When I visited a government school, a foul smell from the toilet welcomed me, more or less the same situation in government schools across the country,” she said in her address to around 1,000 students.

He claimed that it was the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government in Delhi that showed “strong will” to change the scenario and allocated 25 per cent of the total budget to the education sector. “Thanks to the Delhi government’s focus on improving the education scenario, government schools are showing better results than private schools. More than 500 students from our government schools took admission in renowned engineering colleges after clearing JEE. We showed How government schools can be revived with a concrete plan and political will,” she said.

Atishi left immediately after her address and was not there when Vaghani’s turn came. In his candid response to the AAP MLA, Vaghani said that even government schools in Gujarat are offering quality education and infrastructure, which is why nearly four lakh students have left private schools and government schools in recent years. have entered.

The minister asked the college students present in the hall to visit any government school in their area to verify their claims. “Around 33,000 primary schools in Gujarat are run by the government. It is not a city-sized state. We have recently started a command and control center to monitor government schools. Officials from other states visit Gujarat to learn about it and implement it in their states.” On this occasion, Vaghani announced that all the recommendations of the National Education Policy would be implemented within the next 10 years and a Roadmap has been prepared for implementation.

He also announced plans to set up a ‘Global Career Counseling Centre’ to clear doubts of students about educational opportunities abroad. BJP national secretary Sunil Deodhar also hit out at Atishi’s remarks in his address, saying the AAP leader should have told the audience that Delhi’s Kejriwal government spends Rs 600 crore to taxpayers on advertisements every year.

“When Narendra Modi When he became the Chief Minister of Gujarat, the first task he took was to build separate toilets for girls in those 33,000 government schools. This is how policies are made and implemented. But you didn’t know about this initiative because they didn’t spend Rs 600 crore on its advertisement.
