The Congress manifesto said communities would be identified by gender imbalance and an amount of Rs 3,000 per month would be transferred to the bank accounts of daughters, while an assistance of Rs 30 lakh would be given to families with only daughters in old age.
It also promised to increase the state’s health budget to achieve global standards in the sector.
State Congress president Jagdish Thakor said the Congress-led UPA-I and II governments at the Center (between 2004 and 2014) gave Gujarat top priority when it came to implementing welfare schemes.
“When the Congress-led central government started it, Gujarat was the first priority for 108 ambulance service,” he said.

According to the party’s health manifesto, apart from free treatment up to Rs 10 lakh for all citizens in government hospitals and approved private hospitals, there will also be free kidney, liver and heart transplant procedures.
The party will open ‘Janata dispensary’ in every village and civic ward, while remote villages will get ‘movable government hospitals’.
According to the manifesto, all government hospitals will have transparent recruitment of specialist doctors, nursing and technical staff with full pay, while government health centers and hospitals will get “generic medical stores” so that people can get “quality medicines at reasonable prices”. ,
The party will also promote Ayurvedic, Unani, Homeopathic (AYUSH) remedies, for which it will develop an intensive curriculum besides appointing adequate academic and non-academic staff in medical colleges.
“Specialist doctors will be appointed in district level government hospitals for the treatment of heart disease, kidney disease, cancer etc. Intensive programs will be run to eliminate malnutrition among mothers and children and nutrition centers in high prevalence taluks will be established.” It said.
The party, when voted to power, claimed that it would promote the concept of “healthy citizens” by prioritizing playgrounds, indoor stadiums, gymnasiums, yoga centers and nature treatments.
The party said that intensive programs will be run to bring down maternal and child mortality rate below the national rate.
