Gujarat Board to fix dress code for teachers and staff members

Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education The board (GSHSEB) will discuss the proposal to implement a dress code for school teachers and administrative staff. The discussion will take place during the general meeting of the board on February 4. Priyavdan Korat, one of the board members, has prepared a resolution stating that the teachers of the school wear clothes of western design, therefore the GSHSEB board members should introduce a dress code that is in line with the Indian one. reported Culture, a leading news daily.

Korat’s proposal pointed out how teachers are wearing clothes of western design which is completely inappropriate as teaching is a pious profession. Bad influence on young students. Therefore, male and female school teachers should be asked to wear only Indian traditional clothes, the resolution said.

The resolution further states that along with the teachers, the administrative staff (non-teaching members) of the school should also be given a dress code that suits the Indian culture. “I have seen male teachers in gaudy clothes and female teachers in pant-shirts in the classrooms. Is it setting the right example for the students?” According to Ahmedabad Mirror, Korat said in a letter to GSHSEB. Korat took forward the issue and asked the board to fix a proper dress code for teaching and non-teaching staff.

Presently, there is no provision of dress code for teachers in GSHSEB. However, there was a lot of opposition from the teachers on this proposal earlier. The discussion on this proposal is expected to be the focus of the meeting, claimed the Gujarat Board. The Gujarat Board feels that if they give green signal to this proposal then there may be an uproar or debate among the teachers regarding this matter.

Apart from the dress code, the board members will also discuss other issues during the meeting, including allowing schools to submit notarized rent agreement instead of registering property with the sub-registrar’s office. They will also discuss the proposal to give approval to new schools which do not have their own playground while other schools within one kilometer radius have one.
