Gujarat Elections 2022: Election Commission today announced much-awaited polling dates as AAP vs BJP battle turns fierce

The much-awaited Gujarat election schedule will be announced on Thursday at 12 noon. Election The commission has called a press conference to announce the dates. The term of the Gujarat Assembly ends on February 18 next year.

The poll panel had last month announced the single phase polling in Himachal Pradesh without mentioning the dates for the Gujarat elections. This is the third time since 1998 that the announcement of the Gujarat assembly elections has been separated from that of Himachal Pradesh.

Simultaneous elections were held in both states in 1998, 2007 and 2012, but were held separately in 2002–03, as the Gujarat Assembly was prematurely dissolved soon after the Godhra riots.

In 2017, the Election Commission decided to separate the two to avoid imposing an unreasonably long model code of conduct. The poll panel used a similar line this year to justify delinking.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar had told reporters that since the term of both the assemblies was ending at a gap of 40 days, the commission decided to follow the example set in 2017.

The Election Commission generally conducts simultaneous elections in states where incumbent governments are completing their five-year term within six months, and announces the election dates for these states simultaneously.

Bharatiya Janata Party After nearly 25 years in power, Gujarat is facing a triangular fight this time. As the election campaign intensifies, the BJP-led state government and the Center are making concessions, while Aam Aadmi Party Gujarat has decided to repeat its successful Punjab formula.

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal had recently announced that his CM face would be decided after conducting an opinion poll in the western state. The party urged people to contact him through SMS, WhatsApp, voice mail and e-mail to share their views on who should be the CM candidate from the party.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced several mega projects for the state during his visits. From the Defense Expo to the Air Force Transport Carrier Project in Vadodara, the BJP is intensifying its campaign in the state.

CongressThe BJP, which is seen as the main opposition party in the state in recent times, is trying to build momentum with Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s campaign in Vadodara. New Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge also visited the state to chalk out the election strategy with state leaders.

The Congress termed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as the “B-team of the BJP” and said the fight in the Gujarat Assembly elections is between the BJP and it.

Addressing a press conference in Hyderabad, Congress general secretary in-charge Sanchar Jairam Ramesh said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) emerged from the RSS-backed movement in 2012.

India Against Corruption was a major organization of the RSS and from that the AAP emerged. Ramesh further alleged that the way AAP leaders are campaigning, the issues they are raising and the way they are raising, it has become very clear that there is no difference from the BJP.
