Gujarat Elections: PM Modi, Kejriwal to begin last phase of campaigning in Surat today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal will address election campaign rallies today, Sunday, November 27, in Gujarat’s City of Diamonds ‘Surat’. The first phase of polling will be held in Surat. state assembly elections On 1 December.

Local BJP leader Jagdish Patel was quoted by news agency PTI on Saturday as saying that after a 25-km roadshow from the airport to the rally venue, the prime minister would address a public meeting at Mota Varachha in Surat.

Apart from this, PM Modi is also going to address rallies in Netrang in Bharuch district and Mehmedabad in Kheda district today.

AAP supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has joined the new party, will start a two-day tour of BJP bastion ‘Surat’. He will hold town hall meetings with textile industry leaders as well as gem artisans and address a public meeting at Yogi Chowk.

State AAP general secretary Manoj Sorathia said Kejriwal will also hold a road show in Katargam, adding that Surat has become AAP’s center today as per PTI reports.

Sorathia claimed, “Surat Municipal Corporation is the largest civic body in Gujarat today. As per our internal survey, AAP is leading in all 12 seats with more vote share than BJP.”

The AAP has fielded its state unit president Gopal Italia from Katargam, and former Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti leaders Alpesh Kathiria and Dharishi Malviya from Varachha Road and Olpad, respectively.

In the last election in 2017, the BJP had won 99 seats and the Congress came a close second with 77 seats. After Election14 Congress MLAs joined the BJP and the party currently has 111 MLAs under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

Elections to the 182-member state assembly will be held in two phases on December 1 and 5. The counting of votes will take place on December 8.
