The state has long been a BJP bastion and the party is eyeing a return to power for a seventh term.

PM Modi, who is on a tour of his home state, will exercise his franchise today at Nishan School in Ranip, Ahmedabad.

Earlier on Sunday, the Prime Minister met his mother Hiraben Modi And took his blessings at his residence in Gandhinagar.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will cast his vote at the municipal sub-regional office, near Kameshwar Temple, Ankur in Naranpura, Ahmedabad. Shah is likely to reach the polling booth around 10.30 am this morning.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will cast his vote at Shilaj Primary School booth-95 in Ahmedabad.

Besides them, other prominent names who will vote in the second phase of elections in Gujarat are Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Isudan Gadhvi, Gujarat Congress President Jagdish Thakor and cricketers Irfan Pathan, Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya.

The royal family of Vadodara, Congress leader and MP Shaktisinh Gohil and former chief minister Shankersinh Vaghela will also cast their votes today.

The Election Commission has set up 26,409 polling stations and around 36,000 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used for the purpose. Around 29,000 presiding officers and over 84,000 polling officers have been deployed in 14 districts to facilitate the elections.

According to Gujarat Chief Electoral Officer P Bharathi, out of a total of 26,409 polling stations, 93 are model polling stations, 93 are eco-friendly booths, another 93 are managed by Divyang and 14 are managed by youth. In the second phase, webcasting will be done at 13,319 polling stations.

“A total of 2,51,58,730 voters will cast their votes, of which 1,29,26,501 are male, 1,22,31,335 are female and 894 belong to the third gender,” Bharti said.

Talking about the 2017 elections, out of total 182 seats, BJP got 99 seats. The party has been in power for the last 27 years and Narendra Modi has been the longest serving chief minister of the state.

New entrant AAP has shown some impressive results in Gujarat’s municipal elections, but currently lacks the necessary organizational base to defeat the strongmen BJP,

This time, under the leadership of PM Modi, Amit Shah and CR Patil, the party is aiming to get its biggest seat of more than 140.

The results of the Gujarat assembly elections will come on December 8.
