Gurugram based Nagrik Manch started campaign against politics of hate

Gurgaon Citizen Ekta Manch (GNEM), a citizen platform known for its work on communal harmony during COVID, has launched an online campaign on social media urging citizens to speak out against the politics of hate .

As a first step, the platform has asked people to use #HatePoliticsNotInMyName on their social media handles from Martyrs’ Day, January 30.

Several artists have contributed artworks against the politics of hate, which have been made available to be used as profile images and banners. The campaign will soon announce a range of on-ground and social media events.

GNEM in a press statement said that it is committed to create a platform to challenge the politics of hate and will not allow it to become poison in the social life of the people.

“The effort has intensified with the hatred of India. Terrorizing Muslims and Christians on a daily basis seems to be the new testament. Every Friday Namaz is disrupted in Gurugram following the lynching of Muslims in different parts of the country,” the press note said.

“In many states like Uttar Pradesh, inter-religious marriages have been criminalized, with Muslim men marrying Hindu women being harassed by vigilante mobs and later arrested by police. Online attempts to humiliate and terrorize Muslim women are part of the same ecosystem of hate. Christmas has become an occasion for the vigilante crowd to further spread the circle of hatred,” the statement said, adding, “We will fail our children and future generations if we allow India to be held hostage by those Whose only faith is hate”.

The forum said the campaign has received enthusiastic support since its launch with hundreds of people using #HatePoliticsNotInMyName and forwarding artwork for peace and harmony.
