Gurugram: Eight-year-old boy fell into a well open drain Police said on Monday that he was playing outside his house here and operations were on to trace him.
The residents of the boy’s village Gadoli Khurd jammed Gurugram-Pataudi Road Demanded to intensify the search for the boy on Monday.
On Sunday evening, the child Dishant was playing outside his house when he slipped and fell into the drain. He was swept away by the strong current. Police said that his family members and others tried to save him but in vain.
After getting information about the incident, a team of police and fire brigade reached the spot and started the search operation. National Disaster Response Force He said that NDRF divers are also searching for the boy but he is yet to be found.
Angry villagers sat on a dharna on the Gurugram-Pataudi road and refused to vacate it until the boy was found. As a result, traffic was diverted from Umang Bhardwaj Chowk.
Several officials including Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Vishram Kumar Meena reached the spot. Villagers surrounded Meena and demanded that efforts to trace Dishant be stepped up and the drain covered to prevent a repeat of Sunday’s incident.
“Search operation is on. Trained private divers from Delhi have been called and we are hopeful that the child will be found soon,” Meena said.
He said that the work of fencing the drain has also started.
The villagers have held the administration responsible for the incident.
A villager, Sunder Singh, said, “It is the result of negligence on the part of the district administration and civic body officials.”
He claimed that the drain is lying open for the last 14 years.
Ram Singh, another villager, said, “Many requests were made to the authorities to cover the drain but the officials kept saying that the tender has been issued. Had the drain been covered properly, this incident would not have happened.”
