Affected by the job cuts, a software engineer from Gurugram who worked for Amazon for five years was laid off on January 11. Asked people to help him find new opportunities. Tragically, he lost his job only a few months after losing his father.

“The year 2022 has been the most challenging year of my life. First I lost my father, after which he struggled in ICU for 2 to 3 months, due to which I was away from work for almost 4 months. Now on 11th January, I am affected am from the recent layoffs by Amazon,” he wrote in the LinkedIn post.

However, he also wrote that his 5-year stint at Amazon was the best time of his working life. “I thoroughly enjoyed working with some of the smartest people in the industry, and learned great lessons in corporate life. I had the opportunity to work on large scale, client-facing, complex and innovative design problems. I am thankful to all those who supported me during this time.

Mr Sharma also tried to inspire others who were going through the same situation and urged them to stay positive. He also requested people to connect them with potential opportunities.

”For those who are in the same boat, while these are tough times, stay positive, stay motivated. Don’t let these small obstacles in life stop you from moving forward, fight back and come back stronger. I need a little help from you please spread the word around so that I get the right opportunity,” the post further read.

Amazon has 1 lakh employees in India and this decision will affect 1 percent of the employees in the country. Affected employees will be given severance pay, health benefits and other necessary assistance. The company cited the “uncertain economy” and the fact that the online retail giant had “hired rapidly” during the pandemic as reasons for the massive lay-offs.
