HAL bags contract to supply two Dornier aircraft to Indian Coast Guard

New Delhi [India]July 7 (ANI): The Defense Ministry on Friday signed a contract with state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the procurement of two Dornier aircraft for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) as well as related engineering support package. Signed. Cost Rs 458.87 crore.

An official release said that the aircraft would be procured under the procurement (Indian) category.

The Dornier aircraft are being manufactured indigenously at HAL (Transport Aircraft Division), Kanpur.

“It will contribute significantly in achieving self-reliance in the defense sector, in line with the ‘Make in India’ initiative of the government,” he said.

The aircraft will have many advanced equipment including glass cockpit, maritime patrol radar, electro optic infra-red device, mission management system.

“The addition of the aircraft will further enhance the aerial surveillance capability of the maritime areas of responsibility of the ICG,” the release said.

The government has set a target of achieving defense manufacturing of Rs 175,000 crore including defense exports of Rs 35,000 crore by the year 2024-25.

India has taken several policy initiatives over the years and brought reforms to encourage indigenous design, development and manufacturing of defense equipment, promoting self-reliance in such manufacturing. (ANI)
