Kolkata Knight Riders made five changes to their playing XI against Mumbai Indians and skipper Shreyas Iyer admitted that it is not easy to tell players that they will not play.

On Monday, Shreyas had to tell five players that he would not need them in the crunch game but at the end of the night, the team had two important points to stay in the race for the playoffs.

Shreyas Iyer told Star Sports, “It is really difficult (telling the players that they will not play). The coach and sometimes the CEO is also involved in the team selection.”

“Every player takes it well, and they’ve tried their best. The win was sweeping, and when I spoke to the players, they were excited to win the game today,” he said.

On Monday, KKR made five changes and made two of them. Venkatesh Iyer top-scored with a quick 43 while Pat Cummins broke the back of the MI batting order with a 3-wicket over.

Kolkata Knight Riders have moved up to the seventh position in the IPL 2022 points table with 10 points from 12 matches. For now, KKR are still looking for the playoffs, but in an increasingly competitive tournament, KKR can end up with only 14 points and their net run rate is still not the greatest at -0.057.

As it stands, KKR are just one defeat away from a surefire elimination in their hunt for the playoffs and they still have a few loopholes to iron out.

Shreyas Iyer said that he is happy with this big win but admitted that he is not completely satisfied with the way he is for KKR at the moment. Runner-up in 2021, KKR have been extremely inconsistent this season.

“I am very happy because after losing the last game by a big margin, it is good to be back and win by a big margin. We started well in the powerplays and Venky targeted the bowlers well. Me personally Felt it was not an easy start for the new batsman.

When we got to the bowl, the plan was to hit the right areas and not place. I am not (completely) satisfied but want to retain it.”
