Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 recalled in US over faulty seat base, India models affected

The Harley-Davidson Pan America has been recalled in the US due to a seat base failure and models in India have also been affected as the adventure bike is arriving as a CBU.

Harley-Davidson has announced the recall of the new Pan America 1250 Adventure Tourer in the US over the issue of seat base failure. The affected bikes were manufactured between March 8 and October 13 this year. about 2,689 units of Pan America 1250 In the US have been affected by the recall. As of now, it is not clear whether this recall affects the bikes sold in India or not, but Harley-Davidson India is yet to make any official announcement on the issue. Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 arrives in India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), and it could be possible that some bikes sold here may have issues depending on the seat on which the recall has been issued . Carandbike has contacted Harley-Davidson India for further details and is yet to receive any official response.

Harley-Davidson advises owners to avoid using the rear seat and hold the handlebars until the affected part is replaced

According to a filing with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the seat base may not be fastened properly, which could lead to a fracture of the grab handle portion of the base, hence the recall. As part of its communication, Harley-Davidson said it will replace the seat bases on affected motorcycles for free. Owners have been advised not to use the passenger grab handle until replacement is complete. Harley dealers in the US started reaching out to owners from December 6, 2021.

The Pan America 1250 is a major departure from Harley’s traditional roots and the bike is a full sized adventure tourer competing against Ducati Multistrada V4, BMW R 1250 GS, Triumph Tiger 1200 and more. It is based on the new Revolution Max platform and power comes from a 1,252 cc, liquid-cooled, V-twin engine producing 150 bhp at 9,000 rpm and 127 Nm of peak torque at 6,750 rpm.

The Pan America 1250 Special gets semi-active suspension with vehicle load control, TPMS, standard center stand, adjustable rear brake pedal, heated handgrips, steering damper, adaptive ride height (ARH) and tubeless spoke wheels. Prices start at ₹16.90 Lakh for the Standard Edition, going up to ₹19.99 Lakh for the Special Edition. All prices are ex-showroom India. Meanwhile, Harley recently launched the Sportster S in India, which is the second offering based on the Revolution MaxT platform.
