Gurgaon: Clarifying his government’s stand for the first time since protests began in the city two months ago, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattri Said the custom of Prasad on Friday open prayer “will not be tolerated”. At the same time, he said, an “amicable solution” needs to be found.

Speaking to reporters at the PWD rest house, Khattar said that the police and the Gurgaon administration have been told that “the issue needs to be resolved”.
“Somebody offers Namaz in his own house, some recite, some do worship, we have no problem with it. Religious places are built so that people go there and do all these things, such programs cannot happen in open (public places),” the CM said.
Referring to the conversations held in 2018 after which namaz site Nominated by a government committee, he said some decisions were taken in the past but have now been withdrawn. “The matter will be discussed afresh,” he said.
The CM’s remarks come two days after an organization formed by some Muslim residents of the city – Gurgaon Muslim Council – described the ongoing protests by members of civil society as a threat to the social fabric of the city and part of a larger design to make minorities “invisible”.
However, this is not the first time that the CM has expressed his opinion on the subject. During similar protests in 2018, he had said that prayers should be offered in mosques, Idgahs or private places.

Recently, organizations involved in talks to re-designate prayer sites – including a Muslim group, MRM – released a list of six places where Friday prayers would be allowed. The Gurgaon Muslim Council rejected the list, alleging conspiracy and stating that the MRM (Muslim National Forum) had allegiance to the RSS.
