In response to the growing criticism of high unemployment rates, the Haryana government has taken on a role as a recruitment agent. The government plans to recruit 10,000 individuals from the state to address the significant shortage of manpower in Israel’s construction sector, resulting from the ongoing war with Hamas. The selection process will be managed through the Haryana Kaushal Rojgar Nigam (HKRN). This initiative aims to contribute to alleviating Israel’s labour shortage.
According to the job openings posted by HKRN, the minimum age requirement of candidates is 25 years while the maximum age limit is 54 years. Those applying should possess at least three years of relevant work experience and also have a minimum class 10 educational background. Given the exchange rate of 1 NIS to Rs 22, the advertised salary for these positions is 6100 NIS (in Israeli currency), or roughly Rs 1.34 lakh per month, as per the Times of India (ToI).
It is anticipated that potential candidates possess proficiency in wood formwork, industrialised building formwork, ceramic floor and wall tiling, plastering and iron bending. Furthermore, applicants must possess a solid understanding of reading construction plans.
The Haryana government’s action coincides with reports of a severe labour shortage in Israel, where roughly 90,000 Palestinians have had their work permits revoked as a result of the ongoing conflict, ToI states. In addition, the Israel Builders’ Association has reportedly been in negotiations with India to resolve the labour shortage in the construction industry.
The decision by the Haryana government to act as a recruitment agent aligns with Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan’s recent statement. He refuted claims that the Centre and Israel had engaged in discussions about replacing Palestinian labourers with Indian workers.
With 52,089, Jind district received the most applications, as per ToI. While, Kaithal (47,593), Hisar (46,453), Karnal (42,446), and Yamunanagar (34,642) were the next districts in order of submission. On the other hand, Panchkula recorded 7,565 registrations, Faridabad 4,696, and Gurugram 4,548.
