HC stays Mayor’s decision for re-election of MCD Standing Committee, notice to LG as well

The Delhi High Court has stayed Mayor Shelly Oberoi’s decision to approach the commission for re-election to the Standing Committee (Standing Committee) of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The High Court has sought answers by giving notice to the Lieutenant Governor, Mayor and Municipal Corporation. The Delhi High Court has directed the Mayor to preserve the ballot paper, attached footage and other election-related material.

After the defeat in the election of staffing committee members in the House of Municipal Corporation of Delhi, while the Aam Aadmi Party sought protection from the police commissioner, the BJP approached the court. The election of the members of the staff committee was to be held again on Monday, but today the Delhi High Court stayed the mayor’s decision.

Finally, after 9 pm, the election of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was cancelled. The counting of votes in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections on Friday was disrupted when the BJP objected to the functioning of one vote. Earlier, members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the BJP climbed on tables and started shouting slogans against each other at the Municipal Corporation of Delhi House. Later a scuffle also took place. There was a fight between the councillors. A woman’s hair was also pulled. BJP members said they would like to ban.

The BJP obstructed the counting of votes after one of the mayor’s votes was declared invalid. However, the mayor retorted by saying that the result would be declared without a vote. After this chaos spread in the House. Councilors from both sides threatened each other, campaigned late and raised slogans. The kurtas of some councilors were seen getting torn. A councilor also fell.
