TDP MP and Senior Advocate Kanakamedla Ravindra Kumar has sought the intervention of the National Medical Commission (NMC) to retain the name of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences in the interest of the brand value of the institute and the difficulties it may cause. In a letter addressed to NMC president Suresh Chandra Sharma, Mr Kumar said the reasons given by the YSRCP government for renaming the university were weak and “this is done to settle political scores”. He alleged that neither the alumni of the university nor public opinion was consulted on the crucial decision.

Shri Ravindra Kumar urged the Commission to intervene and take necessary steps to retain the name of Dr. NTR Health University.

He said that NTR Vishwavidyalaya, one of its kind was established in 1986 which had gained immense brand value and was well recognized. At this juncture, it was suddenly renamed as Dr. YSR Health University, which shook the students and the entire medical fraternity.

The TDP MP said that the alumni of the university are deeply concerned that the decision to change the name will adversely affect the brand value of the institute and the students are faced with the challenge of convincing the institutes to change their records in the new name. Will have.

He said the move was an insult to NTR and would also tarnish the reputation of the institute. The University was established with the objective of providing quality education and services by bringing all other concerned institutions under one roof for clear policy direction and standards, envisaged by the late NTR.
